HOW TO FIND A CHEAP FLIGHT
Always stressing out, searching multiple websites, and just mainly wasting a lot of time just to search for that cheap flight? Well, follow these tips & tricks and learn how to find a cheap flight.
1. Book it yourself
A travel agent won’t always find the cheapest flight for you. They have to make money. In most cases you would end up paying a lot more for the same flight if you book it through a travel agent and not by yourself. So, do some research and book all the tickets by yourself.
CheapAir offers pretty good deals for flights within the US. You can book international flights too, but I would mostly only recommend it for booking flights within the US.
2. Check the airline’s official website
After you have searched on various booking websites (I would recommend skyscanner the most), visit the airline’s official website to see if they have any special promotions or deals going on.
3. Forget the “add-ons”
Don’t go for add-ons unless you really need them. You don’t really need to pre-select your seat, or purchase airline food. Just bring your own snacks and save money! As for water, you can purchase it inside the airport before boarding your flight, which is generally cheaper than purchasing it in mid air. Also, try to pack light to avoid purchasing extra baggage allowance.
4. Search for discount codes
Just go on google and search for an airline discount code. For example – search on google for “AirAsia discount code” and you can save some extra money, sometimes even hundreds of dollars!
5. Be flexible with dates
Some days are cheaper to fly than others. Days like Tuesday and Wednesday are the cheapest days of the week, so plan your trip accordingly if you want to catch the cheapest flight. Friday and Sunday are the most expensive days and Monday, Thursday, and Saturday are somewhere in between. Be sure to check for different days of the week when booking a flight.
6. Sign up for airlines mailing list for offers and discounts
Sign up for mailing lists of different airlines to get notified of their upcoming sales and deals. This way you can act fast and reserve yourself a seat on sale as there are only a limited amount of seats.
7. Combine different airlines
I was booking a flight from Delhi to Chiang Mai using Thai airways (with a stop over in Bangkok). But then I searched a bit more and found out that booking a flight only till Bangkok using Thai Airways and combining it with an AirAsia flight for Bangkok – Chiang Mai was way more cheaper. So do some research and combine airlines to save some cash.
8. Join the frequent flier program
Sign up for a Frequent Flier Program and earn miles which may then be redeemed for flight tickets or other rewards. You can earn miles by flying with the same airlines or by using co-branded credit cards. Some credit card companies also offer a huge sign up bonus. You can use these credit cards for your day to day expenses and earn more and more miles.
9. Look out for the budget airlines
The booking search engines don’t always include small airlines (also known as budget airlines), so search on Google to see if there exists a budget airlines which operates on your route. These airlines offer cheaper tickets than other larger companies, but also cut down on services. For example, AirAsia flies to various destinations in Asia and offers cheap flights.
Now that you know how to find a cheap flight, pick your next destination from this list of amazing places!
